NOTE: I misposted this, I meant to put it in Recorders. If anyone could, I'd be very grateful.
Dear all,
I bought this unit at CompUSA some months ago and have never had a problem with transferring my old home videos and so forth to DVD, but recently a friend asked me to transfer one of his family's videos, and I've kept getting the 'Protected Content' message, and it won't record. I have an old video stabilizer called Video CopyMaster that has never failed me before, but even it doesn't manage to stop the LiteOn from thinking that this is for some reason protected. I have tried copying the tape (which copies perfectly fine) and recording from the copy; that doesn't work either. I'm now trying to copy the copy, but even with a stabilizer I know it will really deteriorate the quality and that is not what I want.
Can anyone recommend something that might get this stubborn little unit to stop being so stupid? I understand there's no ability to hack the firmware yet, to disable its spotty MV protection (which apparently doesn't even work properly), but if there's any better kind of stabilizer or anything like that which anyone here might have used, I'd be happy to get it. The CopyMaster has worked for me for years now, but I suppose it's really only intended for VHS to VHS copies. Regardless, I do want to get my friend's tape made into a DVD by New Year's, which was when he wanted to show it to his visiting family.
If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. This unit is typically fine and makes good DVDs, and this is the first real problem I've had with it. Personally I've been overall quite satisfied with it, but this is a major sticking point and I really am more than a little concerned that it might pop up randomly in future too, in another one of our videos.
UPDATE: Not even the copy of the copy will do it. For some reason it consistently keeps thinking that it is 'Protected Content'.
Sincerely,
moonmonday
